I answer within two working days. If what is happening cannot wait two days, do not wait for me.

Right now

• 112 — the single European emergency number. It always answers, from any phone, even with no credit.
• An emergency department — if you have thought of harming yourself, or are afraid you might, the nearest emergency department is the right place. That is not an overreaction and it is a valid reason to go.
• 118 — medical emergencies, if you would rather call the ambulance service directly.

If you need to talk to someone tonight

• Telefono Amico Italia — 02 2327 2327, every day from 10am to midnight. Trained listening volunteers answer.
• Telefono Azzurro — 19696, around the clock, for children and for adults reporting a situation involving a child.
• 1522 — violence and stalking helpline, around the clock, free, also available by chat.
• The community mental health centre of your local health authority, which sees people without a referral. The number is on the health authority's website.

If you are thinking of harming yourself

Call 112 or go to an emergency department. If you cannot face calling right now, stay with someone: wake whoever is asleep in the house, phone a person you trust, go out to where there are people. The important thing in the next few hours is not to solve anything. It is not to be alone.
