Work is not the cause of everything

It is where it shows up first, and that is a different thing.

Many people arrive saying the problem is work. The manager, the hours, the meetings, the sense of never reaching the end of it. And it is almost always true: those conditions exist and they weigh.

What emerges in the work is that a job is often the first place a difficulty becomes visible, not the place it began. It is where you are measured every day, in front of someone who is judging, against a deadline. If there is a fragility, that setting brings it to the surface before anything else does.

This is not to say work has nothing to do with it. It is to explain why changing jobs, sometimes, is not enough.
